Coast to Coast
To St Bees

We were to be joined on our first two days by Jay, who had volunteered to drive us up to St Bees on the late afternoon
of the 28th April. We had a fraught - and fast - journey up from Shropshire, due to Graham professing his never-ending
hunger and our desire to arrive before the pubs closed.
Our accommodation in St Bees was Stonehouse Farm run by Carole, which we found to be very suitable and homely with
the additional convenience of The Queens Hotel next door. We were slightly thrown by her opening gambit – “Mr Smith,
would you like to come upstairs with me”, but this was only to show me to our room!
We then adjourned to the Queens Hotel where we tried the excellent local Coniston beer.
