The next morning Martyn and I were entertained at breakfast when Graham had to confess to Rebecca, the landlady,
that he had wet the bed. He then explained that his hydration pack had leaked overnight on the bed. That was his story
and he’s sticking to it!
Today, which was a fine but cool day, we also had a change of guest walker, with Martyn leaving to be replaced by Gary,
a vicar from Manchester who had come up to join us for the day. Much to our surprise, Gary arrived early, and Martyn
was bid farewell awaiting his taxi to Kirkby Stephen. Gary was quickly installed as guide and given the map for the day’s
journey to Richmond, which we sarcastically reminded Gary was probably the easiest part of the whole walk. After
taking an initial look at the route, he didn’t appear to refer to it again and Graham and I decided that he was probably
relying on divine guidance!
We arrived in Richmond quite early, and Gary took a taxi back to Reeth to pick up his car while Graham and I settled into
the Old Brewery Guest House. This was a managed place that lacked the personal touch and pleasantries which we had
found at other accommodations. After Gary’s return we looked around Richmond and then went to the Taste of Thailand
restaurant for dinner. This was excellent and quite a ‘treat’. Following this Gary made his way back to Manchester.
